The number of years is only one part of a roof guarantee. You also need to know who provides it, what work it covers and how a problem would be dealt with.
Start with the written scope
Ask which parts of the completed work are covered, the start date, any exclusions and what you need to do if a defect appears. Keep the quotation, invoices, guarantee document and relevant photographs together. A verbal promise is harder to refer back to than clear written terms.
Company and product cover are different
A contractor’s guarantee relates to the cover that contractor agrees to provide. A manufacturer’s product warranty may have different conditions and may not cover every element of installation or every part of the roof. Ask who should be contacted for the particular problem rather than assuming all cover is interchangeable.
What insurance-backed means
An insurance-backed guarantee is separate cover with its own policy terms and eligibility. NFRC distinguishes this from the contractor’s own guarantee. Do not assume it exists simply because a company is insured, registered with CITB or displays an award. Ask to see the actual cover and the terms applicable to the work.
What Roofing Ninjas offers now
We provide a minimum 10-year company guarantee on new roof work, subject to the written scope and terms. We are working towards certification for insurance-backed guarantees, but that cover is not currently available from us. We would rather make that distinction clear before you book than leave you with an impression that the paperwork cannot support.
The workmanship still comes first
A long guarantee does not replace a proper specification and careful installation. Compare what will be built, the evidence of previous work and the terms together. If the quotation includes only a limited repair, ask about the guarantee for that repair rather than assuming our new roof terms apply.
